Samson AGILE multi-loop synthetic lifting sling

Key Features

  • AmSteel-Blue foundation: high-performance synthetic rope forms the load-bearing loops.
  • Multi-loop construction: a continuous rope is arranged in multiple loops within controlled length tolerances.
  • Inspectable cover: the protective sheath opens to provide access to the internal ropes.
  • Project-specific engineering: Samson uses performance modeling to develop configurations for the intended lift.
  • Matched lengths: engineered designs can address applications requiring closely matched sling lengths.

Engineered for Heavy Payloads

Offshore construction projects place increasing demands on lifting equipment. Heavier conventional rigging can complicate handling, scheduling and operating costs. Samson developed AGILE to address these challenges with a lightweight synthetic system for engineered heavy lifts.

Published sling-strength range: 50t–4,000t. Samson describes this as a range of sling strengths for engineered applications. It is not a universal Working Load Limit, a list of stocked sizes or an approved payload range for every configuration. The rating supplied for the particular engineered sling and lift arrangement governs its use.

AGILE From the Inside Out

AGILE combines characteristics of rope slings and round slings. A continuous length of AmSteel-Blue is looped multiple times within controlled length tolerances. The loops are arranged to maintain internal balance, then enclosed in a protective sheath.

The sheath opens so the individual internal ropes can be inspected. This gives users access to the load-bearing structure rather than relying only on the appearance of the outer cover. Follow the inspection and retirement instructions supplied for the sling.

Built on AmSteel-Blue Experience

AGILE builds on Samson's experience with Dyneema® synthetic ropes. Samson's AGILE literature describes more than 25 years of applications spanning offshore energy, vessel mooring, tug assist, mining, utilities, recreational marine, arboriculture, commercial fishing and cranes.

The development foundation includes evaluation beyond breaking strength: abrasion, tension fatigue, cyclic bend over sheave (CBOS), ultraviolet exposure and shock loading. These research areas help characterize rope behavior; they do not remove the need to follow the limits of the finished lifting system.

Configuration Design and Engineering

Samson uses proprietary performance-modeling software to develop sling configurations around project requirements. Its published development program included building, testing and characterizing more than 50 full-scale slings over two years.

Project specifications are used to create a customized sling model. The configurator can also evaluate alternative arrangements and design solutions to address cost or scheduling considerations.

Manufacturer-Reported Development Testing

  • Alternate rigging and deliberate mis-rigging tests: Samson reports that the tested slings retained more than 85% of design strength in all cases within that test program.
  • Ten-month field trial: Samson reports hundreds of lifts per sling, cosmetic cover scuffing without other significant damage found during inspection, and residual strength results of 90%–100% of rated strength.

These are results reported for the manufacturer's development and trial program. They are not guarantees for every sling or operating environment, permission to mis-rig a sling, or substitutes for inspection, retirement criteria and the approved lift plan.

Samson and Avient / Dyneema

Samson identifies AGILE as a product of its collaboration with Avient, the company behind Dyneema fiber. That development work brings together fiber selection, rope construction and coatings for demanding synthetic-rope applications.

What to Include With Your Quote Request

  • Load weight and a description or drawing of the lift.
  • Required sling lengths, quantity and any matched-length requirements.
  • Proposed hitch, sling angles, attachment points and connection hardware.
  • Contact surfaces, operating environment and any special project requirements.
  • Delivery location, requested date and documentation requirements.

Configuration Matters

AGILE is an engineered lifting system. This overview does not assign a universal lifting capacity. Use the rating and instructions supplied for the specific sling and approved rigging configuration; breaking strength is not a Working Load Limit.
